G1 VRC Oaks winner Treasurethe Moment returns in style

Treasurethe Moment made an ideal start to her autumn campaign with a comprehensive victory in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m).

Having her first start since winning the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington in the autumn, Treasurethe Moment appreciated the solid tempo that was set by Too Darn Lizzie.

Trainer Matt Laurie said it was painless viewing watching the filly win under Damian Lane.

“They hadn’t got to her at the turn, and you knew she was going to have plenty left,” Laurie said.

“To do that as top weight, first-up over 1400 after stretching her out to the Oaks trip, it’s very exciting.”

Laurie had concerns Treasurethe Moment may not have handled the Caulfield turn at her first try at the course, but those fears were alleviated when the filly galloped at the course last Tuesday.

“I wondered whether she kind of crabbed around the turn here a little bit,” Laurie said.

“It was a gritty effort that day, and I think that was the turning point. She went from that benchmark horse into a Stakes horse from that point. It’s been a great ride.”

The Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 8 will be next for Treasurethe Moment before the filly heads to Sydney for the Group 1 double of the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and Australian Oaks (2400m).

Treasurethe Moment is owned by Yulong Stud who also secured wins with Devil Night in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Deny Knowledge in the Listed Victoria Gold Cup (2000m).
