Old foes share the spoils in Bendigo Gold Bracelet

By RS NewsWire on 02/04/2022 at 5:22 pm
Filled in: News - Bendigo Gold Bracelet

Sirileo Miss continues to be a thorn in the side of the connections of Foxy Frida after the pair shared the spoils at Bendigo.

Foxy Frida and Sirileo Miss had met on four occasions leading into the Bendigo Gold Bracelet (1400m) on Saturday with the latter holding a three-one advantage.

Sirileo Miss defeated Foxy Frida at Bendigo in November 2020 then lowered those colours into fifth place in a race at Sandown in September 21.

Again, Sirileo Miss had the better of Foxy Frida when successful in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase at Caulfield last October before Foxy Frida finally got her revenge in the Inglis Bracelet (1600m) at Flemington on VRC Oaks Day.

Under Damien Oliver, Sirileo Miss ($4) led up Saturday’s field and was challenged early in the straight only to have Foxy Frida ($7) and Bill Egan flash at them late.

In a drawn out wait for the result, the judge could not separate the pair with Silent Sovereign ($10) a further 1-¼ lengths away third.

Symon Wilde prepares Sirileo Miss, who was coming off a below par performance first-up at Flemington, and said he was happy to share prize with Foxy Frida.

“We thought she was going a little bit better but she was a fraction disappointing at Flemington, so it was really good to see her bounce back to form today,” Wilde said.

Foxy Frida’s trainer Andrew Noblet said watching the race live he thought his mare had won.

“But then looking at the print (on screen) it was hard to tell,” Noblet said.

“It is what it is, but she’s got a good preparation ahead of her.

“These two have been battling it out, and they’ve started off the same this time and I dare say they’ll be meeting each other again.

“It’s a good little rivalry and they’re both lovely mares.”
