Our Playboy spearheads nominations for The Coast at Gosford

Our Playboy will be looking to build upon his successful Sydney campaign when lining up in Saturday’s $500,000 feature at Gosford.

Having been beaten narrowly by Mr Mozart in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude before taking out a competitive BM100 race in his latest outing, four-year-old Victorian-trained gelding Our Playboy will be hoping to continue his Sydney success, as he spearheads the nominations for The Coast 3&4YO Quality at Gosford on Saturday.

As nominations for the 1600m feature headline Gosford’s exciting 10-race card, the $500,000 event is sure to be a compelling spectacle with few runners tying in the same form lines.

Several last-start Group 1 runners have been nominated for the race, including Gin Martini (3rd in the ATC Oaks, Steinem (9th in the Queen Of The Turf), and English import Maximal (Australian Cup), who will be looking to turn the page on what has thus far been a lacklustre campaign.

Leading the challengers from the south is last-start VOBIS Sires Guineas winner Chartres. The three-year-old gelding could be joined by Victorian-counterparts Love Takes Time and Old Flame.

A strong staying field appears set to be assembled for the Listed Gosford Gold Cup.

Chris Waller once again has a tight grasp on the 2100m event, as he looks to make it three Cups on the bounce.

Leading the assault for Waller’s barrage is comprehensive victor of the Group 3 JRA Plate Polly Grey.

The seven-year-old mare is likely to be joined by stablemates Great House and Stardome, with the former dropping back 500m from his midfield finish in the Group 2 Chairman’s Quality.

After a valiant display to finish second in the Group 3 Packer Plate, promising three-year-old Maurice’s Medad will be determined to go one better this time around although is also nominated for The Coast.

Having closed last campaign with two handy wins over 2000m, Huetor returned in great order first-up over 1400m and looks a live chance to take out the $250,000 contest.

As for the sprinters in the Takeover Target Stakes (1200m), Galaxy winner and cult hero Shelby Sixtysix headlines the nominations for the $200,000 event, although does hold a nomination in Thursday’s Wagga Town Plate.

Flying the flag for the Waller camp are Written Beauty and returning geldings Blondea Blondeau and Oscar Zulu, with the latter looking to add to his impressive first-up record of four starts for three wins.

Other intriguing nominations include Kiwi gelding Gospodin, who is set to make his Australian debut, and Godolphin lone soldier Gravina, who drops back to Listed company after being competitive at Group 3 level.

Currently rated a Heavy 9, it is predicted the Gosford surface will be upgraded into the Soft range by Saturday with ideal conditions forecast.

The rail position is true.
