Outside alley tests Generosity in The Galaxy draw

For the Group 1 The Galaxy, Chris Waller’s barrier draw prowess from the Golden Slipper eludes him, with Generosity his lone contender drawn in the widest berth.

First reserve Catch The Glory holds the sole wider slot, assigning Generosity to launch from alley 14 on the edge barring emergency scratches.

Historical data shows six of the prior 20 The Galaxy (1100m) winners jumping from barriers 10 or beyond, yet only 2017’s Russian Revolution saluted from exactly 14.

With elite hoop James McDonald in the irons, Generosity builds momentum into Saturday’s sprint highlight, fresh off a gritty resumption win denying last year’s Golden Slipper winner Marhoona in the Challenge Stakes (1000m).

At $10 starting price, she bypassed the majority of punters, but trainer Waller anticipated the performance.

“No. We picked the race and then chose not to run in other races, so it was good to see the result,” Waller said.

“She has promised a good win. She has been unlucky in some good races, so when she got out in clear air, it was good to see her do it.”

Initiating her races in Perth, Generosity placed in the 2025 The Quokka (1200m) and boosted credentials via a bold fifth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville that May.

Under Waller’s care thereafter, she performed admirably chasing Lady Shenandoah in the Concorde Stakes (1000m) in September, then placed to Joliestar and Briasa in The Shorts (1100m) and ended two lengths adrift of Rothfire in the Sydney Stakes (1200m).

Listed winner to 1400m distances, her sprinting edge has led Waller to adapt views on her best range.

“When we got her, we thought, we’ll pick out a 1300 or 1400 metre ‘good race’,” Waller said.

“But she has actually been quite sharp.”

T J Smith Stakes winner from last year Briasa launches back into action for The Galaxy with two eye-catching trial blows-outs.

Strong when resuming, the 58.5kg impost on Briasa would top the scales over 20 years, exceeding Eduardo (2021) and Temple Of Boom (2012) at 57kg as heaviest victors past 55.5kg.
