Parnham flags 2025 Karrakatta Plate hopes for Magic Millions winner

Do I Feel Lucky produced a thrilling last-stride victory at Pinjarra on Saturday, enhancing his credentials for the upcoming Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot.

With champion jockey Chris Parnham in the saddle, the promising juvenile flew out of the gates, dictated the pace, and bravely held off a charging Perfectly Proper to win the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) by a short half-head.

Trained by Sean and Jake Casey, Do I Feel Lucky has now recorded two wins and two placings from four career starts. Parnham, who secured his third straight win in the race, believes the youngster is destined for bigger things.

“He’s got what it takes to be a factor in the two-year-old autumn features,” Parnham told Tabradio. “I’d say he’ll have a little freshen-up before targeting the Karrakatta. He’s a classy horse.”

Parnham also had high praise for Shmoov Mover, who flew home from the back to grab fourth in the Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m), despite a wide draw.

“He was super,” Parnham said. “We had no choice but to go back from the barrier, but he hit the line strongly. It was a great effort.”

Meanwhile, the Luke Fernie-trained Rissoles delivered a dazzling win in the Thoroughbred Breeders WA Platinum Classic (1200m), storming home by three lengths. Parnham believes she could be a major player in upcoming mares’ races.

“When she’s in that kind of form, her turn of foot is outstanding,” he said. “She looked the winner on paper and delivered. If she runs like that in the Marjorie Charleson, she’ll be tough to beat.”

The Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m) will take place on March 1, followed by the Karrakatta Plate (1200m) on April 26.

Parnham capped off a stellar weekend by securing another treble at Bunbury on Sunday. His season tally now stands at 103 wins, just one behind Blake Shinn in the Australian Jockey Premiership.

Locally, Parnham remains dominant in the Perth jockeys’ championship with 76 wins, well clear of William Pike (48.5), who has missed several months with a fractured wrist.
