Paula Trenwith chases birthday gift at the Parks

Morphettville based Paula Trenwith could not think of a better present than that of winning a race on her birthday.

Trenwith prepares a team of eight horses at Morphettville and has three runners at the Morphettville Parks meeting on Saturday, her birthday.

Savatoff runs in the Happy 80th Birthday Glynn Pretty Handicap (1950m), Babayka in the Stealth Tools Handicap (1000m) and Millivoy in the Thomas Farms Handicap (1250m).

A former member of the Danny O’Brien stable, Savatoff has been a model of consistency for Trenwith since joining her stable after running third at Avoca last October.

After running fifth in his debut run for Trenwith at Murray Bridge, Savatoff has registered five placings, unfortunately without a victory.

“Dave Cunningham, one of my owners, bought him online through the Inglis Sales,” Trenwith said.

“He identified him as being a nice horse for South Australian racing.

“He tries his hardest. I’ve tried him over all sorts of different distances to see what suits him and he’s been competitive wherever he goes, but he’s just finding one better at the moment.”

Savatoff drops to 56.5kg on Saturday, the lightest weight he has carried in his past five outings.

Babayka lumped 64kg when second last time out and drops 10kg but faces a rise in grade, however he was a winner at the Parks in the same grade over the same trip in September.

“It’s a hard race on Saturday for him, but he’s been well performed on the Parks track before and I think he’ll be around the mark,” Trenwith said.

Millivoy was also a Parks winner over 1000m back in November and is coming off a last start win at Kangaroo Island where he carried 62kg to victory and drops to 57.5kg on Saturday.

Trenwith has engaged Justin Potter, a strong rider in the hope it will stop Millivoy from hanging in.

She said it did not affect Millivoy on the tight Kangaroo Island circuit, but it could be a different scenario on Saturday.

“He’s a pretty classy horse when he’s at his best and we’ve put Justin Potter on as he does hang in sometimes, so it will be nice to have a strong rider on,” Trenwith said.

“If someone wanted to have an all-up place bet, you’ll get a run for your money, that’s for sure.”
