Pride Of Jenni will contest Saturday’s Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield against 10 rivals, with the run designed as a lead-in to the Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane later this month.
The Listed race carries a 61kg maximum topweight, and the mare will give away a notable weight advantage, including 5.5kg to Regal Zeus.
Trainer Ciaron Maher said the team had used similar preps with past stars, notably Gold Trip, who raced under similar conditions before taking out major features.
“Jenni is in really good order,” Maher told RSN. “She’s enroute up to Queensland and we will have a look at her on Saturday.”
“We have used races like that before… I think we did it a couple of times with Gold Trip.”
Gold Trip ran in a benchmark 100 at Moonee Valley before his triumph in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) ahead of winning the Melbourne Cup in 2023.
Pride Of Jenni resumed after a mandatory bleeding ban with a strong win in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield. She then finished near the rear in the Group 1 Australian Cup behind stablemate Light Infantry Man.
Following that effort, she spent time recovering at her owner’s property before resuming work toward a Brisbane campaign.
“I think she’s in good order and I think she will bounce back,” Maher said.
Craig Newitt retains the ride and will jump from barrier four on Saturday.
