Prix De Turn gets a second chance

Once destined for the equestrian world, Prix De Turn has instead been given a second chance at racing and will step out at Caulfield in Saturday’s Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap (1400m).

Absent since the 2023 Yarra Valley Cup, the rising seven-year-old is best known for winning the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes, though injuries have restricted him to just 18 career starts.

His career highlight came early when he finished midfield in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, his second career outing after a maiden placing at Sandown.

Trainer Matthew Brown said the horse had persistent conformation issues and was eventually retired, until a recent reassessment found him sound and mentally refreshed.

“He’s come back in really good shape. We figured we’d give it another go and see what happens,” Brown said.

Brown confirmed Prix De Turn would carry only 50kg under apprentice Rose Hammond, making it an easier return run.

“We’ll learn a lot from this run. If he performs, we’ll press on. If not, it might be time to call it a day,” he added.

With his solid jump-outs, Prix De Turn has been attracting interest from punters. You can find the best betting platforms for this race at this page.
