Revolutionary Miss deserving of her Kewney Stakes win

Revolutionary Miss has raced in the best of company throughout her brief career but prior to Saturday had only one win to her name.

That changed at Flemington when the filly took out the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) which followed a previous Group 2 win in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield 12 months ago.

Along the way, Revolutionary Miss had finished second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and the Group 1 Thousand Guineas, so Saturday’s victory was most welcomed by trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and the filly’s connections.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, Revolutionary Miss ($3.60 betr) got up in the final few strides to score a half-head win from Papillon Club ($5.50) with Nunthorpe ($13) a further 1-½ lengths away third.

Peter Snowden said Revolutionary Miss had been the bridesmaid so often and was deserving of her victory on Saturday.

“She’s a tough filly, she’s been the bridesmaid on two occasions, she’s run second in a Blue Diamond and second in a Group 1 Thousand Guineas,” Snowden said.

“So, a feature race is everything for this filly and it’s great for these owners.

“She looked the winner a long way out but he (Zahra) just had nowhere to go, and he really had to angle tight and quickly to get out of that position, but she was good enough to pick up and win again, which was a great effort.”

Snowden said Revolutionary Miss would return to Sydney for the autumn carnival.

“There are a couple of options back in Sydney,” Snowden said.

“Every preparation she’s had she runs to her best and she’s been a very good filly.”

Zahra said the Kewney success was some consolation for the filly’s defeat in the Thousand Guineas, although the prize money was not quite as good.

He said Revolutionary Miss flew the start and settle closer in the run that she had down previously.

“She had her ears pricked wanting to lay out,” Zahra said.

“I had to wait behind Nunthorpe and Papillion Club and they just provided enough room at the right time for her to show her finishing burst.”
