Sale success for Fatty Finn honours trainer Charlotte Littlefield

Older punters likely noted Fatty Finn’s maiden triumph as the favourite during the Sale meeting.

Inspired by a 1920s comic strip persona from Sydney, the character hit the big screen in the 1980s with Ben Oxenbould in the starring role.

The horse Fatty Finn succeeded on start three in Wednesday’s Programmed Property Services Maiden Plate (1415m) at Sale.

Under Charlotte Littlefield’s guidance, she manages Bruiser Murphy too, a debut maiden winner at Moe with shared owners to Fatty Finn.

Acting as strapper at Sale, Littlefield wasted no time sharing the appealing origin of Fatty Finn.

“Ben, the actor who played the character in the movie, got in touch with us,” Littlefield told racing.com.

“He’s going world-wide this horse and now that he’s won, he’s going to be even more famous.

“It’s a great story.”

Zac Spain guided the $2.10 favourite Fatty Finn to a commanding win by 1-½ lengths over Just For Kicks ($5), followed a head by She’s Got The Cash ($6) in third.

“He rode that to perfection,” Littlefield said.

“He took luck out of the equation, he went forward and the horse was too good.

“A big thank-you to Lyn Joyce who has entrusted this horse in my care, and she has two horses, very well named, Bruiser Murphy and Fatty Finn.”

Littlefield heads to England for the July Magnolia Cup on ‘Ladies Day’ of the Glorious Goodwood Carnival, pitting 12 women from business, sport, fashion, and media against each other post-training.

“I grew up just down the road, so Goodwood was my local racecourse,” Little said.

“To now return here and compete at such a prestigious event is truly a pinch-me moment.”
