Some of Sydney’s best young talent will be on show at Rosehill trials this week, with several two-year-olds from feature races set to take part as they prepare for their three-year-old campaigns.
Trainer Brad Widdup will step out his promising filly Savvy Hallie for her second trial this preparation in a 900-metre heat on Tuesday morning, where she will clash with ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up State Visit.
Savvy Hallie, a daughter of Hellbent, is yet to break through in four starts but boasts three placings and is regarded as one of the more exciting prospects in Widdup’s stable alongside last weekend’s Randwick winner Nashville Jack.
“She and Nashville Jack both look to have bright futures,” Widdup said. “You always hope they’ll make the grade, and so far she’s ticking the right boxes.”
The filly impressed in her first trial at Rosehill on July 15, her first public run since finishing second to Tempted in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m). Before that, she had chased home Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner Nepotism in the Group 3 TL Baillieu Handicap (1400m).
Also trialling are quality youngsters such as Within The Law, King Of Pop, Pago Pago Stakes winner Skyhook, Silver Slipper runner-up West Of Swindon and Canonbury Stakes winner Blitzburg.
Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes winner North England will feature in the second 900-metre trial on the course proper, where he will be joined by Magic Night Stakes victor Memo, Chris Waller’s pair Lindermann and Moira, and Group 1 winner Another Prophet.
The trials will open with a 1000-metre heat for proven stayers including Sydney Cup hero Arapaho, Land Legend and Interpretation as they build towards spring campaigns.
