A combination of racing campaigns and travel experiences has refined Silver Wedding, who is now poised to target a Stakes race win.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare, a winner of four from her thirteen starts, is scheduled to compete in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic over 1200 metres at Ipswich this Saturday.
Silver Wedding, a sister to Group 1 winner Schwarz, will race in the distinctive colours of Joliestar, who is also slated to compete in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday night for trainer Chris Waller.
“She has got a huge pedigree, being a sister to Schwarz,” Maher stated. “And Brendan and Jo (Lindsay), they have been good supporters of the stable.”
The mare has achieved three victories in Brisbane and made a trip to New Zealand earlier this year to participate in the Aotearoa Classic at Ellerslie during their Summer Carnival.
Silver Wedding resumed with a strong performance, winning over 1000m at Eagle Farm on May 30, a victory that did not catch the Maher team by surprise.
“She’s a horse that we’ve always given time to but has always shown ability,” Maher said. “We’ve seen glimpses (of form) lots of time and each prep she improves. When she was up in Brisbane last time she improved and when she went to New Zealand, I thought that was a huge run, given the ground she covered. She’s had a break and even in her run first-up, you can see she’s improved again, although she showed she was very forward in condition with her first-up run. The 1000 (metres), it didn’t surprise me, but I thought it might be too short for her, but she was very dominant and the step up to 1200 metres (on Saturday) will suit. Ipswich can be a bit tricky, but I think she will show her class.”
Silver Wedding has drawn barrier 10 in a field of 21 starters, including five emergencies. Why not check the betting sites for the Gai Waterhouse Classic?
