Sir Sway will return to the track this Saturday for the Listed Hills Railway Stakes (1100m) at Oakbank, after a tough run against elite company last week. Trained by the mother-and-son team Sue and Jason Jaensch, the gelding looks set for a competitive showing as he drops back from facing the likes of Asfoora and Climbing Star in Group 3 company.
Sir Sway ran eighth in the R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville last Saturday, finishing within three lengths of Asfoora, who is being targeted at Royal Ascot. With the The Goodwood now in sight, the Jaensch camp has opted to give Sir Sway another hit-out this weekend as part of his lead-up.
“We thought we might as well back him up here and then he can go three weeks into The Goodwood,” said Jason Jaensch. “The Goodwood is our aim.”
Drawn out in barrier 11, Sir Sway has opened as the $2.60 favourite in Saturday’s field. Extremely Lucky ($5) and Taunting ($5.50) are considered his main rivals. Jason believes the gate won’t be an issue based on how the horse has drawn all campaign.
“The barrier isn’t really a problem as he hasn’t really drawn on the track at all this preparation so we’re not too concerned with the draw,” he said.
“We hadn’t really looked at this race and initially thought that this race wouldn’t fit in but he ran really well on Saturday and mum was like, ‘would you think about facing him up again’, so I thought about it and he’s pulled up fine so why not have a go and see what happens.”
Jake Toeroek will partner Sir Sway for the first time, with Jaensch encouraged by Toeroek’s team reaching out post-nominations, showing interest in the mount for the Easter Carnival opener.
