Snowden fillies tackle stakes class at Caulfield

Peter and Paul Snowden are hoping a return to Caulfield will help Ebhaar return to winning form.

Since a disappointing autumn campaign abandoned after two runs, a lot of work has gone into re-educating Ebhaar in how to be a racehorse.

Ebhaar makes her three-year-old reappearance in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday, a track she was successful at over 1000m in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes last November.

Two runs in Sydney during the autumn saw the filly finish second-last and last and hopes of a start in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes evaporated.

The Snowdens have worked hard with Ebhaar this campaign getting the filly to settle.

“She gets very anxious and does a bit too much too early,” Peter Snowden said.

“We’ve really worked on that this preparation even though she’s led in her trials, she’s led at a controlled speed.

“She’s got that natural pace which you don’t want to take away from her to a degree, as long as she’s not running on a breath of air.

“It’s harder under race conditions, but if she can come back under the rider mid-race, it will help her at the end of the race.”

Leading Sydney jockey James Mcdonald has ridden the filly in her two trials which she has won comfortably at Hawkesbury and Randwick, but Kerrin Mcevoy is heading down to ride her on Saturday.

The Snowdens will also be represented by last start Moonee Valley victor Winnertakesitall.

Snowden said Winnertakesitall weighed-in at under 400kg, describing her as a pony.

“She’s still immature, still a bit light, but very genuine,” Snowden said.

“If she can jag a place, that would be fantastic. In 12 months’ time she will be up to that grade, she just needs time to strengthen up.”
