He’s Our Bonneval looking for ratings boost at Flemington

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young have high hopes for imported galloper He’s Our Bonneval who steps out for the third time for the stable at Flemington.

Down to jump-out at Cranbourne on Monday, Busuttin and Young elected to bypass that and instead have the gelding down to run in the Parade Lounge (1620m) on Saturday.

An Australian debut winner at Caulfield on June 25, He’s Our Bonneval finished second at that track on July 9 at his most recent outing.

Entered in the Caulfield Cup, the Melbourne Cup and the Cox Plate, He’s Our Bonneval needs to first get his rating up to tackle better lead-up races and win one, or two, of those to get into the spring features.

“He’s won over the mile before and the only time he’s won over 1400 (metres) was first-up here in Australia,” Young said.

“I think he was looking for that (the mile) last start so I think he will be conditioned nicely for Saturday and hopefully it will be the perfect race for him at Flemington.

“We need to get another win behind him and get his rating up and once we do I think he will be able to take that step up and get to that 2000-metre mark which should be nice for him.

“He’s one of a few that we’ve got in the stable that we would like to see step up and it’s about getting their rating up so we can get them into those better races.”

Uncle Bryn is a similar import to He’s Our Bonneval and won a jump-out at Cranbourne stylishly.

Young said they may consider a change from their original plans with the import.

“We were thinking of running him over 1500 metres at The Valley on August 20, but (Ben) Melham got off him and said he could run in the Memsie Stakes,” Young said.

“We’ll see. We do need to get his rating up, but he’s come back really good since his break.

“He’s loving his work and he’s got a good spring in his step at the moment.”
