Queen Of The Turf Stakes victor Idle Flyer is among the headline horses set to feature at an upcoming barrier trial session at Rosehill. The Matt Smith-conditioned mare is stepping out as she continues to build towards her return to the racetrack.

Idle Flyer is scheduled to participate in the first 1000m Group heat this Friday. She will face competition from the ATC Australian Derby winner Green Spaces. This trial will be her second and final appearance before she officially resumes her campaign at Randwick on August 22.

Smith indicated that the King Charles III Stakes (1600m) is the mare’s initial objective, with a possibility of heading south afterwards. “She will resume in either the Winx (Stakes) or the Show County (Quality),” Smith stated. “She’s going super. “She will probably head towards the King Charles and then to Melbourne for the mares’ race, the Empire Rose Stakes.”

Idle Flyer is building on a highly successful autumn, during which she claimed the Emancipation Stakes (1500m) and outclassed Lady Shenandoah and Treasurethe Moment in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).

Stablemate Headwall will also be in action, contesting a 900m Group trial on Friday. This run is intended to prepare him for his first-up tilt at the Concorde Stakes (1000m) on September 5.

The talented sprinter won the Concorde Stakes last year but has been sidelined since due to a leg injury. Smith is optimistic about Headwall’s prospects of returning to his best and earning a place in the prestigious The Everest (1200m).

“The 1000 metres first-up will be ideal, and then he’ll go to The Shorts and we’ll see what happens,” Smith remarked. “Hopefully he can win one of those and we’ll get a guernsey in The Everest.”

Other notable contenders appearing in the trials include Group 1 winners Apocalyptic, Lazzura, and Private Eye, as well as the promising stayer Thebudgiesmugla.
