Hong Kong’s champion sprinter Ka Ying Rising has touched down in Sydney, firming as the odds-on favourite for the $20 million The Everest at Randwick on October 18.
Trained by David Hayes, the son of Shamexpress arrived on Monday morning in excellent order, taking the next big step toward his spring target. Australian Turf Club racing manager Nevesh Ramdhani hailed the arrival of Hong Kong’s highest-rated galloper as a major coup for Sydney racing.
“Absolutely, the ratings on this horse after his 13 wins have just been incredible,” Ramdhani said. “In the 10 years we’ve been doing it, I can’t remember another horse that has been rated as highly as he has. It also builds on the partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which is so important.”
Ka Ying Rising has been almost flawless in his career, with 14 victories and two seconds from 16 starts, and he is unbeaten since January last year. His peak Racing And Sports Rating of 132 places him among racing’s greats, comparable to Via Sistina’s Cox Plate performance in 2024 and just below Black Caviar (136) and Winx (134).
Following his arrival, the five-year-old was moved to Canterbury Quarantine, where he will complete two weeks in isolation before trialling at Randwick on October 7.
He is the first of several international horses bound for Sydney, with last year’s Golden Eagle winner Lake Forest and Sam Hawkens set to land Tuesday, while Bullet Point, Panja Tower, Seagulls Eleven and Luther will join later this month.
Excitement is building as Ka Ying Rising prepares for his Everest showdown, with punters already locking in their bets through Australia’s premier betting sites.
