Switzerland has officially retired from racing, with Coolmore confirming the three-year-old will now begin a new chapter as a stallion at their Jerrys Plains farm.
The Chris Waller-trained colt wrapped up his racing career with a seventh-place finish in the T J Smith Stakes, marking his final appearance on the track.
Coolmore’s Tom Magnier confirmed Switzerland’s stud career will kick off at an introductory service fee of $60,500 (including GST).
“Switzerland is a horse that we have been looking forward to standing at Coolmore for a long time,” Magnier said.
“He was always the head of his class from when he was broken-in at the farm to when he first arrived in Chris Waller’s stable.
“He was a top-class two-year-old, the fastest ever winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes and the highest-rated spring three-year-old ever by the great Snitzel.
“Physically, he is a stunning horse who we believe will be extremely easy for breeders to mate to, with a high-class American speed pedigree that lends itself to much of the Australian broodmare population.
“He is a very exciting addition to our roster and we will be supporting him with quality mares from the start.”
Switzerland becomes the third Snitzel colt to join Coolmore’s stallion team, alongside Golden Slipper champion Shinzo and Best Of Bordeaux, the 2022 Slipper runner-up.
Bought for $1.5 million at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Switzerland retires with five wins from ten outings. His standout performance came in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, following earlier success in the Group 2 Todman Stakes and the Roman Consul Stakes.
