Grahame Begg has opted for patience with promising juvenile Jadzia, electing to delay her debut until more suitable conditions present at Caulfield.
The filly was withdrawn from last Saturday’s Blue Diamond Preview due to the extreme heat, with Begg unwilling to risk her so early in her career.
She will instead line up in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) this weekend.
“I wasn’t completely happy with her on the morning and decided it was best to wait,” Begg said.
“With young horses, if everything isn’t spot on, you don’t push them.
“The weather last week made the decision easier, and the extra week between runs could actually help her.”
Begg previously won the Chairman’s Stakes with Mildred in 2020 and believes Jadzia has shown enough to warrant starting her campaign there.
“She’s been working nicely and galloped well at Cranbourne,” he said.
“She came to us late after being broken in up north, but she’s progressed quickly since arriving.
“Her jump-out and trial were encouraging, and she’s telling us she’s ready.”
Saturday’s run will determine whether Jadzia heads towards the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes later this month.
“You’d prefer two runs going into a race like that, but we’ll see how she performs and make a call after,” Begg said.
“She’s also nominated for the Golden Slipper, so she’s got options.”
Markets for the Chairman’s Stakes are available through major Australian betting providers ahead of Saturday’s meeting.
