Saturday’s Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot will bring together two of Perth’s standout juveniles for a third clash, as Yes Queen and Talkanco resume their growing rivalry.

The pair have gone stride-for-stride across their three previous meetings, and bookmakers see little between them once again. Yes Queen, the current favourite, will jump from barrier six, with Talkanco right alongside in five.

Dion Luciani’s filly Yes Queen claimed the bragging rights in their first duel, defeating Talkanco by 1½ lengths in the Crystal Slipper Stakes.

Dan and Ben Pearce’s Talkanco responded by outduelling Yes Queen in the Gimcrack Stakes, while both were placed behind Luana Miss in the Supremacy Stakes.

“She came through the run really well,” Dan Pearce said of Talkanco. “I am wondering if Yes Queen came that hard it might have caught her a bit by surprise. I think our filly went with her late and through the line and past the line.

“I couldn’t be happier with our girl and she’s where she needs to be fitness wise. I wouldn’t be swapping her and hopefully she can peak on grand final day.”

The Pearce stable also launches Perfectly Proper into the Karrakatta Plate. The filly, drawn in barrier 16, resumes after a luckless second in the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic.

“She was a bit unlucky, the gap just tightened as she was about to come through,” Pearce said. “She comes in first up, but went fresh into the Magic Millions and obviously went enormous there. Barrier really hurts, but if she can be finishing off like the Magic Millions she will play a part.”

Brad Parnham takes the ride on Talkanco, Clint Johnston-Porter is aboard Perfectly Proper, while William Pike will steer Yes Queen.

In the market, Yes Queen holds sway at $2.30, followed by Talkanco at $3.70 and Perfectly Proper at longer odds of $26.
