The Ciaron Maher outfit’s prior Tasmanian Derby victory triggered a series of Derby triumphs across Australia.

Back in 2021, Explosive Jack seized the Tasmanian Derby, then the Australian Derby in Sydney and South Australian Derby in Adelaide.

Afterwards, the three-year-old competed in Brisbane, earning bronze in the Queensland Derby.

Dad And Dave provided Maher’s latest Tasmanian Derby win in Hobart last month, potentially charting a course like Explosive Jack to the remaining Australian Derbies this campaign.

Progressing along that line is Saturday’s Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield, Dad And Dave’s first run post his Tasmanian Derby score.

“He’s got that Tassie form, and he’s had a little bit of time since then,” Maher said.

“But this race will shape where we go. Potentially Sydney and potentially on the Explosive Jack path to Adelaide and Brisbane after that.

“He (Explosive Jack) did the lot, but this horse is probably not as robust at the same time as Explosive Jack, but we’ll see how he goes.

“He’s in pretty good order, all the same.”

Amazake joins Dad And Dave in contesting the Alister Clark Stakes as he chases a maiden victory.

In spring, Amazake filled third in the Caulfield Classic at this track and trip before a midfield finish in the Victoria Derby (2500m).

His most recent outing was a second placing in a 1600m maiden at Pakenham this month.

“I just like the way he went through the line at Pakenham,” Maher said.

“It’s a more testing track there, and he hit the line pretty well.

“Being a three-year-old, he’s got plenty of time to knock off a maiden, but he stays OK and can burn around in the Alister Clark Stakes.”
