James McDonald has endorsed Tempted as a serious contender for the Golden Slipper after a stunning win in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes at Randwick.
Tempted, a daughter of Street Boss, had narrowly missed out in the Widden Stakes and struggled in the Blue Diamond Stakes but showed her true form in Saturday’s race. Settling back in the pack, the $2.90 favourite made a strong charge down the outside to win by a neck, with Marhoona ($11) in second and Inkaruna ($5.50) third.
McDonald praised the filly’s abilities, saying, “She’s a beautiful filly and she’s just promised a lot. She rides really well and she’s a genuine Golden Slipper hope.”
McDonald, who has previously won the Gimcrack Stakes and Magic Night Stakes on Tempted’s dam, Calliope, sees a lot of similarities between the two. “She was a little weapon of a filly,” he recalled.
With her Golden Slipper chances growing, Tempted has firmed from $26 to $9 in the betting market.
