Victorian colt Tentyris has defied expectations, winning the Group 2 Todman Stakes and further boosting his Golden Slipper credentials.
Tentyris, who placed in the Blue Diamond, surged down the straight to defeat the $1.60 favourite Broadsiding, who had been expected to land a fourth Group 1 win. Tentyris won by three-quarters of a length, with Nepotism ($41) claiming third.
Trainer Anthony Freedman, who recently set up a Sydney base, credited the win to careful planning. “We always had a big circle around the Doncaster for him,” Freedman said. “We felt kicking off here and through the George Ryder would be a nice style of preparation.”
Jockey Nash Rawiller praised Tentyris, calling the win “no fluke” and describing the colt as “the real deal.”
Tentyris’ impressive form has now placed him as a $7 second favourite for the Golden Slipper.
