Racing NSW has today announced The Golden Eagle is set for a prizemoney increase from 2022 making it Australia’s second richest race.
Prizemoney for Australia’s premier four-year-old race is set for a $500,000 increase from 2022, boosting the total purse to a stunning $8 million.
Quickly becoming one of the main attractions of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the world’s third richest turf race also attracts the second highest wagering turnover of any NSW race, only behind The Everest.
Recognised as Rosehill’s marquee race of the spring, the increase in prizemoney not only benefits the runners and connections, but also the connections’ charities of choice with the nominated charities receiving 10% of prizemoney, they too are in for a boost.
Last month’s edition of the race saw the winner I’m Thunderstruck’s nominated charity Camp Quality pocket a staggering $410,000.
“The Golden Eagle has been a stunning success both on the track and through wagering, with this increase reflecting what an instant hit the race has been,” said Racing NSW Chairman Mr Russell Balding AO.
“The race has clearly resonated with the racing public and has cemented its place in our expanded Sydney Spring Carnival.”
The announcement comes less than a week after Racing NSW also increased the prizemoney for the Longines Golden Slipper Stakes by $1.5 million to a total purse of $5million.
The prizemoney boost further bolsters its status as the world’s richest two-year-old event and one of the main drawcards of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
