The Three Hundred delivered a timely return to form with a powerful victory in the Group 3 Winx Guineas on the Sunshine Coast’s biggest raceday.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott were searching for a breakthrough this prep with their gelding, and a slick start combined with Angela Jones’ cool ride gave them the result they were chasing over the 1600m distance.
Jones, who had already claimed two wins on the card and now heads into a suspension, was lauded for her execution.
“She rode him beautifully and she’s got really nice hands on a horse so it was a pleasure to have her on and ride a winner for the Waterhouse and Bott stable,” said Neil Payne.
“The problem with this horse is that he’s a bugger at the machines. We told Ang to keep him warmed up and if he jumps to put him right into the race.
“Over the last one or two starts, he was slowly away and he gets back and starts to lose interest. I was really happy when he jumped and Ang kept pushing forward.”
The Three Hundred ($11), a son of I Am Invincible, now has three wins and three placings from 13 starts, finishing strongly ahead of long-shot Ramp It Up ($31) and Apuntar ($6).
Also successful on the day was Fortunate Kiss ($26), who capitalised on recent form to capture the Listed Glasshouse Handicap after runner-up efforts in the Wangoom Handicap and Eye Liner Stakes.
