Reliable Thanks Gorgeous delivered on expectations with a desperate dive to claim a stakes prize at Flemington.

Trained by Mark and Levi Kavanagh, the filly lifted the Listed VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) prize on Saturday, her third conquest this term.

Craig Williams drove Thanks Gorgeous ($19) through in the shadows of the post to collar Tycoon Star ($9.50) by the narrowest margin, Bacash ($31) missing out by a short-head in third.

Earlier in her first preparation, the filly posted good results including a Group company placing at Caulfield last August, before saluting for maiden honours at Mornington on New Year’s Day.

She has since won over 1100m on Flemington’s straight, filled a placing there too, and excelled again Saturday.

Levi Kavanagh highlighted how well the filly has served the stable, racing competitively near horses like My Gladiola, the $2.30 top pick who was fourth.

“We thought she was a specialist at the Caulfield track early on, but she was running at 1200 metres and not quite getting there,” Kavanagh said.

“Since we’ve been running her down the straight, she has been exceptional.

“The 1100 metres is the key, she got through the ground well and it was a great ride from Craig. I would have liked him to get there a little bit earlier to keep my heart a little less pounding, but she was in front where she needed to be and that was fantastic.”

Per Kavanagh, Thanks Gorgeous was untroubled by the heavy track Saturday, but perhaps not as much as a few others.

The next move for Thanks Gorgeous—spell or persist from her October launch—requires deliberation.

“We have looked at going to Adelaide, but she has been to be up for a long time,” Kavanagh said.

“She’s a horse that does not like to spell down at the farm and loves being in work. She’s always happy at the stables, so we’ll see how she pulls up.”
