Tim Clark hoping Belle tolls in G1 Tatt’s Tiara

Veteran jockey Tim Clark is turning to Grinzinger Belle as his final Group One ride of the season in the upcoming Tattersall’s Tiara, believing the lightly raced mare could be the X-factor in the field.

Clark, fresh from victory in the Stradbroke Handicap aboard War Machine, has yet to ride Grinzinger Belle but is drawn to her potential and freshness heading into the season’s final Group One feature.

“My manager was keen. He had a look at the potential make-up of the field and she is the fresh horse on the scene,” Clark explained.

“The mares that have been racing up there have been taking turns a bit and there isn’t a lot between them, so we looked outside the square a bit.”

The Danny O’Brien-trained Grinzinger Belle had a brief spell after finishing midfield in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick behind Fangirl, but she previously dominated in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m).

A proven performer over the 1400m, Grinzinger Belle’s go-forward style suits the profile of the Tattersall’s Tiara, and Clark is confident she can capitalise on the race dynamics.

“A few of the mares’ races up there have lacked a bit of speed and she is one who is going to make her own luck,” Clark said.

“She likes to run along and break a field up. Hopefully we can end the season with another Group One.”

Currently priced at $11 in pre-nomination betting, Grinzinger Belle will be looking to upset current $3.50 favourite Firestorm from the Chris Waller camp.
