Apprentice jockey Brayden Gaerth is set for a career highlight this Saturday as he takes the ride on Admiration Express in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m), following a memorable weekend that included his first $100,000 race win.

Gaerth expertly piloted Camera Action to victory in the Provincial Championship Series Final and will now get the opportunity to ride in the first feature of the Belmont winter season. Admiration Express, trained by Jason Miller, resumes after a strong campaign that saw her finish second in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m).

With regular rider Lucy Fiore committed to Northam Stakes winner West Star, Miller has full faith in Gaerth to handle the assignment.

“I’m happy to put him on,” Miller told Racing WA. “His confidence is high and he does a lot of work with the stable. It’s good to give him an opportunity, he’s riding well.”

Admiration Express was a standout filly at three, winning the Champion Fillies Stakes and later claiming the Coolgardie Cup before her strong showing in the Northerly.

She returns in the Belmont Sprint after two solid trials and will be aimed at the Hyperion Stakes (1600m) and Strickland Stakes (2000m) later this winter.

“She’s had a good break and has come back good,” said Miller. “She might be vulnerable first-up, but good horses can always surprise you.”

Elsewhere in the stable, three-year-old Admire The Girl will line up on Wednesday at Belmont with William Pike aboard, aiming to remain unbeaten this campaign.

“She’s going well,” Miller said. “But there are a couple of good ones in there. Nickleplay and Magnique are both in form.”
