The Hayes family is set for a big day at Caulfield on Saturday, with Lindsay Park lining up major contenders in the $300,000 Group 2 Lawrence Stakes and the main three-year-old features. Among their runners is one of Australia’s most talked-about fillies, Scenic Point.
Equal favourite for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on Caulfield Cup Day, Scenic Point will contest the $200,000 Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) as she aims to extend her perfect record after victories in a maiden at Pakenham and the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes.
“She’s probably one of the more exciting three-year-olds coming out of our stable,” Ben Hayes said. “She’s going into it with improvement, but she’s ready to go.”
Hayes has previous success in the Quezette, winning in 2019 with Bella Nipotina, who later became a multiple Group 1 winner and the only mare to take out The Everest.
Top names to have emerged from the Vain Stakes include Giga Kick, Bivouac, and Russian Revolution, while Quezette winners range from Sunlight to Alinghi. This year’s Quezette field also boasts unbeaten Signature Scent, Group winners The Playwright and Icarian Dream, Blue Hotel, and My Gladiola.
Lindsay Park will also have two strong Vain Stakes representatives—Shining Smile, who has strung together five wins, and Tycoon Star, placed in the Blue Diamond. They face quality opposition in Shaggy, McGaw, Jimmy Recard, and Sonofkirk.
