Chris Waller is plotting another J J Atkins raid with Hidden Achievement, a colt who’s on a path reminiscent of his previous stars The Autumn Sun and Press Statement.
Each of those colts debuted in April, raced in Sydney, and then peaked in the J J Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm, delivering Waller two of his three career wins in the race.
Hidden Achievement followed suit early, running second on debut before scoring a maiden victory at Gosford. Unlike his predecessors, though, the youngster will make his fourth start in the Group 1 event, having placed third to Zebra Finch at Rosehill last start.
“There is nothing like keeping them at home and educating them, giving them a softer time up to the mile and their grand final,” Waller said.
“I think he’s got the right profile to go close.
“He has drawn reasonably well and James (McDonald) rides. He is a really nice colt.”
A set of blinkers has been added to his gear in hopes of improving his focus on race day.
“He worked in them Saturday and Tuesday and he responded well to them,” he said.
“He won’t need them fulltime, but it will help him show a bit more aggression on Saturday.”
Providence joins Hidden Achievement in the Waller team for the Group 1, while Regulated Affair is tipped to stay in Sydney, given a wide barrier draw in the Atkins.
