Waller has high hopes for Warwick Farm winner

Chris Waller has declared untapped three-year-old Democracy Manifest a future black-type performer after the gelding continued his unbeaten record for the stable at Warwick Farm.

An impressive winner at his first start for the premier trainer last month, Democracy Manifest ($2.50 fav) didn’t appear comfortable in the heavy 10 conditions on Wednesday, but his class came to the fore as he ran down I’m Devine ($17) to score by 3-1/4 lengths.

Excelladus ($5.50) was another 2-1/4 lengths away third.

Waller is unsure if he will continue further with Democracy Manifest this campaign given the ongoing wet tracks in Sydney, but he is certain the horse is above average.

“I don’t know how far we will push through the winter,” Waller said.

“It was pretty testing ground today and only his class got him through.

“He is a really nice horse. He will get through to those Group races, it’s as simple as that.”

Democracy Manifest sat outside early leader Vivid Flash in the Proven Thoroughbreds Handicap (1300m) with Excelledus joining them in a three-wide position.

The trio began to fan turning for home and Jason Collett aboard I’m Devine seized the opportunity to sneak up along the inside and surge to the front.

However, I’m Devine’s advantage was short-lived with Democracy Manifest raising another effort under James Mcdonald to reel in the filly and race clear for a comfortable victory.

“He’s done a good job to do what he did,” McDonald said.

“He is a highly strung horse who loves his racing. He will progress nicely through to Saturday grade.”

Shameless Miss gave Waller an early double when she saluted for jockey Tommy Berry to land her first Sydney metropolitan win a race later.
