Coolmore and Chris Waller are yet to confirm if Group 1 winner Switzerland will return to the track, but they made a major statement at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by purchasing his full brother for a record price.
Tom Magnier shelled out $2.7 million to secure the Snitzel colt out of Ms Bad Behavior, a full sibling to Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland. The colt, presented by Arrowfield Stud, became the top-selling lot of Day 1 and the most expensive colt at the sale since 2022.
The price tag far exceeded the $1.5 million Coolmore paid for Switzerland two years earlier, and Magnier admitted the colt’s racetrack success and breeding appeal were key motivations behind the purchase.
“A lot of people are enquiring about Switzerland going to stud at the moment, but this is a lovely type and obviously Snitzel is a fantastic sire,” Magnier said.
“Chris and all the team really like the horse. The colt’s fund, thankfully, is going very well and we have some great people in the fund, great supporters of Coolmore, and we just hope to have a bit of luck.”
Magnier was impressed by how much the new colt reminded him of his accomplished older brother.
“He’s a strong horse like his brother, loads of quality like his brother, just one of the standouts of the sale,” Magnier said.
The colt surpassed another big sale earlier in the day—a $1.7 million Snitzel colt out of La Mexicana bought by James Harron and TFI. Other seven-figure sales included I Am Invincible fillies from Missile Mantra ($1.2 million) and Pippie ($1.4 million), as well as yearlings by Zoustar, Extreme Choice, and So You Think, all fetching $1.15 million.
As for Switzerland, his future remains undecided following a seventh-place finish in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes. Waller and the Coolmore team are expected to make a call later this week.
“We’re deciding that at the moment,” Magnier said. “We just need to get this week out of the way and have a think about it.
“The races were yesterday, the sales are today, so nothing is planned out yet.”
