Because Arctic Glamour dislikes running on wet surfaces, her trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou are vigilantly monitoring Sydney’s forecast in the lead-up to her anticipated start in the Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick.
Not having triumphed in any of her six soft-track runs, the five-year-old mare’s connections aim to dodge a pointless effort, with Ryan stating they’d pivot to another option if rain impacts Randwick.
“We will know on Saturday morning at 7.30 (AEDT),” Ryan said.
“If she doesn’t run Saturday, she will go to Newcastle. But she won’t be running on rain-affected ground.”
The Newcastle Stakes (1400m) scheduled for March 6 at the Hunter track represents the substitute, yet Ryan is optimistic about dry conditions enabling Arctic Glamour’s participation in the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m).
She boasts fine fresh credentials, winning the Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) on return during spring, and Ryan assesses her equally primed for this spell.
“As good as ever. Her fresh record is great, she’s had seven goes for two wins, a second and a third, and there was one race first-up at Randwick you could just put a line through,” Ryan said.
“Her first trial was good. She probably ran out of a bit of puff.
Then the other day we went back and rode her quiet and she hit the line really well – I didn’t want her to have a hard trial, I wanted her to run home for 300 or 400 metres, and she did that really well.”
Barrier four is the draw for Tom Sherry on Arctic Glamour, opening pathways to the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at her familiar Rosehill track a couple of weeks on.
