Group 2 winner Savvy Hallie will continue her Princess Series campaign in Saturday’s Furious Stakes, with trainer Brad Widdup unconcerned by the improving Randwick track surface.

The filly has been flying this prep, backing up her emphatic Newcastle win with a classy performance in the Silver Shadow Stakes. Widdup said such a turnaround was rare. “It was a pretty good effort to do that and in a short period. You can’t do that with a normal horse. She’s learning what it’s all about now.”

Though most of her form is on heavy going, her trainer sees no issue with firmer tracks. “She’s had three runs on good tracks for two seconds… I couldn’t imagine we’re going to get a good three or anything like that so it’s the perfect time of year for her.”

Barrier draws could play a key role on Saturday, with Savvy Hallie landing gate five, Within The Law (runner-up last start) posted wide, Agarwood drawing 10 and Michael Freedman’s exciting filly Apocalyptic in barrier one.

The Furious is the second of the four-race Princess Series, which moves on to the Tea Rose Stakes and culminates in the Group 1 Flight Stakes over a mile.
