Wrote To Arataki snapped an 18-month winless streak with a gutsy display in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m), proving she’s back to her best.
Trainer Matthew Williams opted for a change of scenery after a disappointing spring campaign, sending the mare to a different spelling property in hopes of reigniting her form.
That decision paid off as Wrote To Arataki showcased her trademark determination in her second run this preparation. Jockey Dean Yendall credited the rain-affected track for playing to her strengths.
“She went through a rough patch, but the time away clearly helped. She’s come back in great shape,” Yendall said.
“The firmer track first-up wasn’t ideal for her, but once the rain came, I knew she’d be right in the mix. She loves this type of ground.”
Williams was not present for the victory, as he was attending a family function in Port Fairy.
