Co-trainers Amy and Ash Yargi have no hesitations in expressing their fondness for their four-year-old mare and last start Flemington winner Florescent Star who takes another step in her career at Caulfield tomorrow.

“She’s just a little star for us,” Amy said.

“She’s only a tiny little horse but she’s got a heart bigger than her whole body and puts in 110 per-cent each time she steps out.”

Florescent Star is at $7.50 in the Mark O’Sullivan Handicap over 1100 metres and with four wins and as many placings in her 11 starts she will take on the colts and geldings.

“She’s in really great shape for the first time she takes on the boys,” Amy said.

“We’ve placed her particularly well keeping her in mares grade wherever possible so she does have to take on the boys tomorrow and that’s why we’re trying to get a little bit of weight relief with a claim.”

In search of a three-kilo claim to counter the 61.5-kilo impost, finding a jockey to fit the bill is proving difficult for the Mornington-based pair.

“It’s a little difficult the way COVID is at the moment and injuries so there are a lot of jockeys out of action,” she said.

“We just need a jockey and hopefully she runs well again.”

The preparation between Florescent Star’s Flemington victory has been positive.

“She’s had a nice jump out in between runs which is usually what we do with her.

“She ran for fun that day, she had her ears pricked and went along nicely.”

Having been on the pace for much of her career in the run, later outings have seen the mare settle further back and been just as effective.

“She’s adaptable and not a one trick pony,” Amy said.

“She’s just really versatile and doesn’t want to overdo it.

“You can place her anywhere in the run, really, and it gives her a lot of options.

“You know she’s going to have a really good turn-of-foot in the end, too.”
