New Zealand-bred mare Yonce will now attempt to add black type to her record after extending her unbeaten sequence with victory at Flemington.

Yonce is now unbeaten in five starts for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable following her win in The Schweppes Plate (1600m) on Saturday.

Another of the Maher and Eustace-trained mares Marabi is unbeaten in seven starts and was successful in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

Sent out the $2.90 favourite under John Allen, Yonce scored widening three length win from Gentleman Roy ($4.40) with Savannah Cloud ($7) a neck away third.

Yonce had to overcome a difficult path after being buried away on the fence entered the straight, but Allen persevered for inside runs before angling off the fence inside the final 200m.

“I was a bit worried on the turn, but she just seems to get herself out trouble,” Eustace said.

“I know she wasn’t a long way back, but she was in an awkward spot.

“She’s got a good turn-of-foot and she’s very honest.”

Eustace said a stakes race would now need to be found for the mare, but he was not sure where that would be.

“There’s some obvious races in Adelaide, but we need to have a look and see what’s up in Sydney,” Eustace said.

Allen said Saturday’s victory was possibly her best adding the soft ground had suited.

“The team and the owners thought that if she got on a bit of wet ground she’d be even better and with a bit of give in the ground today she really showed that dynamic turn-of-foot,” Allen said.

“On that performance I think she’s definitely something to look forward to.”
