Won by some of our very best horses, including Winx, the Doncaster Mile field is packed with talent in 2022, and it shapes as one of the best betting races of the season.

Doncaster Mile – Winner – No. 3 Private Eye

He has drawn terribly out in 22, but I think that Private Eye can and will run a big race in the Doncaster Mile.

The Joe Pride-trained gelding stepped up a gear during the Spring Carnival last year, and won the Epsom Handicap over this route most notably.

I thought that his first-up performance this time was excellent, and while he was a little flat in the George Ryder, third-up and out to the mile can see a return to winning form.

Doncaster Mile – 2nd – No. 16 Forbidden Love

She could just come out and win again, but I am going to take on early Doncaster Mile betting favourite Forbidden Love.

She won her first Group 1 in last year’s Surround Stakes, but it is fair to say that she has found career-best form this time in, winning each of her last three starts, including both the Canterbury Stakes and the George Ryder.

Last year’s Doncaster Mile winner Jamie Kah is booked to ride, she’ll carry a light weight and clearly, she likes the heavy going.

Doncaster Mile – 3rd – No. 10 Icebath

She’d be close to the best-credentialled mare in the country that is yet to win a Group 1 race, and Icebath can return another big effort in the 2022 Doncaster Mile.

She has been the stable star for Brad Widdup for several seasons now, and Icebath has returned to the races in competitive form this time, she just hasn’t had conditions to suit, more often than not.

She’ll carry just 51.5kgs, will swim through the heavy track and with even luck, will surely fight out the finish.

Doncaster Mile – 4th – No. 4 Dalasan

This is something of a speculative suggestion, but most horses are in a race as open as this, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dalasan in the finish of the Doncaster Mile.

He too is an exception horse who in unlucky not to have already tasted Group 1 success, but the son of Dalakhani has picked off plenty of good races throughout his career.

He steps out this week third-up, he’s drawn well and Chad Schofield can give him every chance once again.
