Hobartville Stakes Day at Rosehill Tips, Best Bets and Race Previews – 19/2/2022

Anamoe is the star attraction at Rosehill on Saturday when he lines up as the favourite in the feature race of the afternoon – the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes – but there are plenty of other quality races to look forward to.

Race 1: Highway Handicap (1400m) – 12:25pm

Tip: No. 6 Golden Point

Golden Point has been consistent right the way through this prep so far placing in six of his seven starts including a third in the Highway two weeks ago.

The chestnut gelding settled near the rear of the field in that event and was doing his best work late in the race and the fact that we are getting each way odds yet again is appealing from a betting point of view.

Race 2: Benchmark 94 Handicap (1100m) – 1:00pm

Tip: No. 6 Gravina

The James Cummings trained Gravina has been placed in 10 of 13 career race starts including all four starts last prep.

The four year old is a touch lighter (gelded) since the last time we saw him race which will hopefully be the catalyst to produce some wins.

Tommy Berry steers from barrier six.

Race 3: Midway Handicap (1500m) – 1:35pm

Tip: No. 6 The Guru

The Guru produced two wins in a row earlier this prep at Randwick and Kembla Grange and although both of those wins came at 2000m, he has shown a good turn of foot in his races.

He was given a freshen up before running second last start but he should have plenty of residual fitness.

The double figure odds represent good each way value.

Race 4: Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) – 2:10pm

Tip: No. 2 Rocha Clock

Rocha Clock finished her campaign with back to back seconds in The Invitation and Hot Danish and has placed in 13 of 20 overall.

She is a consistent and progressive mare who is a proven performer at this level of racing and two barrier trials in the lead up will have ready to fire first up from a spell in the Millie Fox Stakes.

Race 5: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) – 2:45pm

Tip: No. 9 Zapateo

The James Cummings trained Zapateo is a filly with plenty of ability and she is yet to finish outside the top two in four career starts.

She finished her last prep with a narrow defeat behind the very smart Zouzarella at The Valley and she has had two nice trials leading into this first up assignment.

She has drifted in early betting so I’d recommend waiting until race day to bet.

Race 6: Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) – 3:20pm

Tip: No. 2 Best Of Bordeaux

Best Of Bordeaux could not have been much more impressive when taking out the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes by over four and half lengths at Rosehill on debut.

The daughter of Snitzel has been drifting in early betting which is hard to understand given her dominance on debut and the fact that she will only improve on that effort.

She looks one of the better each way bets of the afternoon in the Silver Slipper Stakes.

Race 7: Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) – 4:05pm

Tip: No. 7 Parry Sound

Parry Sound is another that is well over the odds at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Bjorn Baker trained gelding is racing really well right at the minute having won the Group 3 Summer Cup on Boxing Day.

He was then not beaten far in both the Magic Millions Trophy and the Australia Day Cup and the step back in distance should not be an issue.

The son of Pierro is out of Group 1 winning mare Aqua D’amore and one William Pike will steer from barrier 13.

Race 8: Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) – 4:45pm

Tip: No. 1 Anamoe

Despite letting the punters down when he resumed in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes, finishing third as the favourite, his run was full of merit.

The 2021 Cox Plate runner up was a long way back when they turned but he found the line really well late in the race.

He is the best colt in the country and he will take plenty of benefit out of that first up run.

Race 9: Benchmark 100 Handicap (1400m) – 5:25pm

Tip: No. 3 Zeyrek

This is far from the ideal distance for Zeyrek who was beaten less than a length and a half in the Group 1 Metropolitan over 2400m during his last campaign.

In saying that, he is a very talented horse who has shown a sharp turn of foot in the past and in a very open race, he can run a cheeky race first up at $26.

Race 10: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m) – 6:00pm

Tip: Boxed Trifecta 3/6/7/10/13

Let’s box them up in the last and see if we can finish on a winning note!
