Clairvoyance back on track ahead of the Pinjarra Classic

By RS NewsWire on 18/02/2022 at 2:42 pm
Filled in: News - Pinjarra Classic

Darren McAuliffe believes Clairvoyance can surge through the remainder of her campaign after a confidence-boosting victory at Pinjarra two weeks ago.

Following a couple of indifferent performances, the Nostradamus mare was back on top of her game after fighting back from serious injury and illness.

Redisplaying her customary speed and strength out in front, Clairvoyance showed a glimpse of the form that had her rated as an emerging sprinting talent.

She made a blistering start to her career, winning five of her first six races before knee surgery and bad colic threatened to end her racing days.

McAuliffe said Clairvoyance was in good order as she chases the first leg of a feature sprint double in Sunday’s Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m).

“She bounced out of her win really, really well,” McAuliffe told Tabradio.

“She’s had a good couple of weeks of training since her last run and I’m very happy with her.”

After a nine months away from racing, Clairvoyance resumed in Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) and finished seventh after a difficult run.

She fared little better two weeks later in the Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) when she ran second last behind Hot Zed after racing wide.

Despite finishing outside the placings for the first time in her career, McAuliffe never lost faith that she could turn the corner.

“We knew we had her right and she’d been working really well,” McAuliffe said.

“I thought that a win was not far away, just needed to brush up on a couple of things.

“We changed some gear and took the blinkers off; she was baulking at the gates and not stepping properly.

“The starters were very accommodating and so we leave the back gates open and put a little rope behind for extra room.

“It helps her get away cleanly and seems to have done the trick.

“We’re back on track and hopefully onwards and upwards.”

Chris Parnham out to claim his second Pinjarra Classic, will ride Clairvoyance from barrier 14.

The gun rider guided home Free Trade two years ago for trainer Michael Lane.

Clairvoyance will round her campaign in the Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) on March 5.

Meanwhile McAuliffe said stable mate Solia was nearing her top for the Listed Detonator Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday.

“It looks a really good map for her and she’s drawn nicely,” McAuliffe said.

“She’ll slot in the first three or four and runs the trip solidly.

“She has a turn of foot and each run is progressively getting better.”

In an open betting affair, Solia is the $6.50 second-elect behind Platoon ($5.50).
