It’s the highlight of summer racing in Australia, and an enormous sum of money goes on the line on 2022 Magic Millions Day on the Gold Coast!
All nine races have drawn competitive fields but as always, it’s the 2YO Classic and the 3YO Guineas that everyone is hoping to win, and plenty of stars of tomorrow are engaged in each.

Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m) – 1:15pm AEDT
Tip: No. 5 Heir Apparent
It’s the richest maiden in the country and typically, there is a case to be made for nearly every start in the Magic Millions Maiden – it’s a bloody tough way to begin the day.
That being said, I’ve been quite impressed with Victorian Heir Apparent, and I think that he can get the monkey off his back in style.
Heir Apparent showed some ability during a brief debut prep and he is unlucky not to have saluted this time, finishing second at Kyneton and Sandown.
Fitter third-up, he’s up to this.
Magic Millions Open (1800m) – 1:50pm AEDT
Tip: No. 2 Wheelhouse
Wheelhouse charged home to score an eye-catching win here on the Gold Coast last week, and the Magic Millions Open looks a lovely feature for him.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding has returned some bold effort recently, and finished second in the Listed Ladies Day Vase and a talent-rich BM88 race at Randwick before saluting here last week.
He’s rock-hard fit, will relish the conditions and with even luck, can record a lucrative win.
Magic Millions Subzero (2400m) – 2:25pm AEDT
Tip: No. 1 Parry Sound
He has been charged with lugging topweight, but I am going to stick with Parry Sound in the Magic Millions Subzero.
Parry Sound needed his first two starts back this time to tine up, but he let down with an eye-catching turn of foot last time to strike in the Group 3 Summer Cup on Boxing Day.
He’s ready for the mile and a half and as long as he handles the weight, I really can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) – 3:00pm AEDT
Tip: No. 1 Krone
In my opinion, the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race is always one of the better contests on the program and we’re faced with another terrific betting prospect on the Gold Coast each year.
Krone is just the best horse in the field in my opinion, and we can have an each-way play at around the $9 mark.
Krone has always shown plenty of ability, but she went to another level under the care of Tony Gollan last year, and she won the Group 1 Coolmore Classic most notably.
She strips fitter for a fair first-up run for fifth in the Nudgee Handicap, Timmy Clark rides and I think she’ll take beating.
Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) – 3:35pm AEDT
Tip: No. 1 Beau Rossa & No. 7 Fituese
This IS the best race on the Magic Millions program every year, and I simply cannot wait for the Snippets.
With a case to be made for several once again, I am going to have something on a couple on a couple; Beau Rossa ($11 at publish) and Fituese ($8.50 at publish).
Beau Rossa went to a new level in 2021, winning in Group 2 company most notably and finishing a bee’s you-know-what second in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.
It turned out that he needed his first-up run in the Falvelon at Doomben last month, but I’m expecting big improvement for that hit-out, and I like that he has been back to the trials since that race.
Fituese is as tough as they come, and she returns from a few months in the paddock on Saturday.
He fresh record currently stands at 5:4-0-0 and she has trialled extremely well in the lead-up to this return.
Magic Millions Cup (1400m) – 4:15pm AEDT
Tip: No. 4 Eleven Eleven
Can Special K win the Magic Millions Cup? Of course he can, and imagine the scenes.
The enigmatic galloper really has started to come back on these last few months, and he won the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes during his spring prep, before returned for another win in The Buffering at Doomben on New Year’s Day.
I do believe that his best effort come when he is fresh, however, so I am going to take him on.
Eleven Eleven is a Magic Millions specialist and he is the one that I want to be with at $9.
Eleven Eleven recorded the biggest win of his career when awarded the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas two years ago, and he returned last year to win this race.
Greg Hickman just gets them going at the right moment for success on the Gold Coast, and we can have an each-way play on this bloke as well.
Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) – 5:00pm AEDT
Tip: No. 9 Coolangatta
$2 million goes on the line in the always-exciting Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
I think that the undefeated Coolangatta is going to take a power of beating again, and I’ve put her on top of my numbers.
Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) – 5:45pm AEDT
Tip: No. 2 Jamaea
As is usually the case, the 3YO Guineas looks to be a far more open affair, and I can make a case for a few of them!
I have put Jamaea on top, but you can find my full race preview and complete 2022 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Tips RIGHT HERE.
Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m) – 6:20pm AEDT
Tip: No. 13 Lady Banff
This certainly isn’t the easiest way to end Magic Millions Day from a betting perspective, but there’s value around a few runners in my opinion, including Lady Banff.
Lady Banff has tended to mix her form a little, and she finished midfield in each of her first two back this time, but her run for second behind Lady Of Luxury here last week was very hard to ignore.
She steps out this week in peak order, I like that she is on the short back-up and she’ll carry just 54kgs.
