The Caulfield jump-outs on Wednesday will feature a host of elite gallopers, with Group 1 stars Magic Time, Attrition, Mornington Glory, Pinstriped, Desert Lightning, La Dorada and Smokin’ Romans among the headline acts in the opening 800m heat.
Trainer Gavin Bedggood is looking forward to seeing Mornington Glory return, having switched from a planned Cranbourne jump-out after those were moved to Polytrack.
Mornington Glory is being prepared for another early-season campaign similar to last spring when he won three straight races at Moonee Valley, culminating in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m).
That preparation also included a start in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes and victories in a Benchmark 100 race and the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m).
Bedggood said the gelding will resume in the Norman Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley on August 23 before targeting the Moir Stakes.
“He’s in terrific shape and improving with each piece of work,” Bedggood said. “We’ll give him another trial 12 days after Wednesday and follow the same path as last year.”
Mornington Glory’s last run was a third placing in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1200m). His autumn campaign was cut short when he suffered a joint injury just before the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.
