Ciaron Maher and his team are plotting the next step for talented filly Exit, with Flemington set to be her next assignment following an impressive Sandown win.
The rising three-year-old scored first-up over 1300m on July 16 and will likely contest a benchmark 70 race over 1400m for three-year-olds at Flemington on Saturday.
It was just Exit’s second career start, her debut having come in the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield in February, where she finished ninth over 1100m.
Maher’s assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said Saturday’s race would be an ideal stepping stone as the stable eyes spring features.
“We’ve always liked her. She was very green on debut but has come back stronger, and Saturday should give us a good guide,” Turnbull said.
“If she performs again, races like the Thousand Guineas Prelude will be on the radar.”
Turnbull said three weeks between runs was perfect for Exit as she continues to mature physically and mentally.
Her pedigree suggests she could be well placed to make an impact in spring. Exit is out of Secretly Discreet, while her granddam Maybe Discreet won the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m).
Too Darn Discreet, a daughter of Maybe Discreet, is also among the entries at Flemington on Saturday in the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1600m).
