Peter Snowden is optimistic classy filly Memo can resume on a winning note when she lines up in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday, the first leg of the Princess Series.
Memo showed her quality as a juvenile, highlighted by a decisive victory in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and a gallant second in the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast. She will be returning from a short break with her sights on further black type success.
Snowden said the Zoustar filly had returned in good order, noting her maturity and trial form gave him confidence she was ready to fire first-up.
“She is a bit stronger, a bit heavier. I’m just hoping she can bring back what she had last time because last time in she was very solid,” Snowden said.
“The indications are there. Her trials have been good… and we’re seeing good signs at home in her work.
“She is on track to run well.”
The Silver Shadow also features several exciting fillies including Bjorn Baker’s Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Within The Law, unbeaten Agarwood from Tulloch Lodge, and Percy Sykes Stakes runner-up Savvy Hallie, who broke her maiden at Newcastle last week.
Memo is untested beyond 1200m but Snowden is open to stretching her to 1400m, with the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 20 under consideration.
“I’m thinking this prep we might get her out a bit further,” he said. “She may get to a Tea Rose and we’ll go from there.”
