Agarwood could make her Group 2 return in the $300,000 Furious Stakes this weekend, though her participation is dependent on how she performs at trackwork in the coming days.
The Wootton Bassett filly finished sixth on the heavy ground in the Silver Shadow Stakes, her first defeat after opening her career with back-to-back wins. Adrian Bott said while she remains capable of competing at this level, they may opt for a softer assignment.
“She may also be nominated for a midweek race to get a bit of confidence back off the back of that,” Bott explained. “The track was the big factor as to why she struggled the other day… but she seems great and she has worked up nicely.”
Canterbury’s 1250m fillies and mares benchmark 72 next Wednesday looms as an alternative. Bott emphasised the need to be forgiving. “It was difficult, she was beaten pretty quickly and convincingly the other day but she didn’t handle the track. It was very heavy, so you need to be forgiving of that.”
Stablemate Stardom, winner of the Woodlands Stakes, is also entered for the Furious following a sharp trial win at Hawkesbury. Tulloch Lodge’s Melbourne Cup duo, Vauban and Sir Delius, are expected to step out in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) on the same program.
