Another Chris Waller-trained star is Everest-bound, with Lady Shenandoah confirmed on Monday to contest the $20 million The Everest at Randwick on October 18.
The four-year-old daughter of Snitzel will run in the Fairway Thoroughbreds slot held by breeder-owner John Camilleri. Her addition takes the confirmed field to six, including her high-profile stable companion Joliestar, who secured her place last week.
Hermitage Thoroughbreds, who race the multiple Group 1-winning mare, welcomed the news. “We are thrilled to see Lady Shenandoah gain a spot in this year’s Everest,” said manager Shannon Clarke. “It’s a race that captures the imagination of the racing world and to be represented by a mare of her calibre is a great honour. We’re also incredibly grateful to Fairway Thoroughbreds for their support and confidence in Lady Shenandoah.”
Lady Shenandoah has already proven herself in the Flight Stakes, Surround Stakes and Coolmore Classic, all won at Group 1 level last season, and recently resumed with a fast-finishing second in the Concorde Stakes. She is scheduled to use the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 26 as her final stepping stone towards Everest day.
