Trainer Grahame Begg has praised the HKJC World Pool Sprint Classic for its ideal timing and placement, offering a great lead-up to the Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) at Randwick.
With $500,000 in prize money, the Listed race over 1100m has drawn 18 runners, and Begg believes the event deserves greater recognition.
“It’s a good innovation, probably one of the best they’ve done in a while,” Begg said. “It’s perfectly timed for horses aiming for the Arrowfield Sprint, and the distance is spot on.”
Begg’s charge, Rich Dottie, is coming into the race after a disappointing first-up performance at Caulfield but ran well in her next start at Flemington.
“She’s in good shape, and we’re under no illusions about the competition,” Begg added. “She had a nice jump-out on Monday, and she’s ready for the challenge.”
Depending on her performance, Rich Dottie may head to Adelaide for the Redelva Stakes (1100m) on April 12, with wet conditions in Sydney influencing the decision.
