The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable will line up two runners in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday: resuming Globe and comeback galloper Ayrton.
Ayrton, the 2023 winner, returns from a near 12-month break, while Globe resumes after last racing in the Listed Ballarat Cup (2000m) in December. Both horses had an exhibition gallop at Sandown, with Globe benefiting more from the session.
Ayrton’s March 8 return in the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap (1400m) saw him fade to ninth, but trainer Kent Jnr believes the month between runs will improve his fitness. He’s confident Ayrton, who loves Caulfield, will perform better on race day.
Globe, a “high energy free sweater,” had a productive hit-out and is primed for his return. Kent Jnr sees Saturday as an ideal starting point for Globe, with plans to head north after the race. Ayrton, however, prefers dry tracks, ruling out a Sydney campaign.
