Big Sky has propelled himself into Blue Diamond contention after an authoritative debut victory for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr at Flemington.
The Bivouac colt justified strong market support in the TAB We’re On (1000m), producing a dominant display under Jordan Childs, who was a late replacement for the injured Mark Zahra.
Despite drawing widest, Big Sky showed sharp early speed to cross and settle before surging away late, scoring by 2¾ lengths over Mirador, with Boridi a further three-quarters of a length back.
His performance saw him firm sharply in Blue Diamond markets, trimming from $15 into $6, placing him second in betting behind stablemate Guest House.
Michael Kent Jnr praised both the colt’s talent and the ride from Childs.
“It worked out pretty well, really,” Kent Jnr said.
“He did a lot wrong early, but Jordy handled him beautifully.
“The idea was to let him relax and just ride him as a horse, and once he got balanced, his acceleration was instant.
“The way he travelled through the line was very encouraging.”
Punters can now assess updated markets and race odds through leading online bookmakers as the Blue Diamond picture takes shape.
The stable is considering a clash between Big Sky and Guest House in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) later this month.
“We haven’t lined them up yet,” Kent Jnr said.
“He’s done everything right, but the competition steps up from here.
“The 1100 metres looks a nice progression before stretching out to the Diamond distance.”
