Caladan and The Sprinkler will headline a strong contingent of runners from the Richard and Chantelle Jolly yard at Saturday’s metro meeting at Thomas Farms Racecourse Murray Bridge.
Caladan is chasing a hat-trick of wins in the BM66 1000m handicap, with punters firmly in his corner after stylish victories at Balaklava and Murray Bridge, along with a sharp recent trial at Morphettville.
He could earn a shot at black-type company in the Lightning Stakes later this month should he continue his winning form.
“He just keeps stepping up to the mark,” Jolly said.
“We elected to give him a little breather between runs, he’s had a month between runs and we gave him a little jump out last week.
“He’s a really capable horse going places and he looks to be hard to beat from barrier two.”
Stablemate The Sprinkler tackles the BM68 over 1400m after a luckless run at Morphettville Parks. Prior to that, he won a rich Racing Rewards SA event and is expected to bounce back under Jake Toeroek, who also rides Caladan.
“He won well at Murray Bridge two starts ago then his last run was just a total forgive,” Jolly said.
“On paper, it says he ran eighth or ninth but he never got a crack at them and he probably should’ve nearly won.
“The 16 gate, if they’re getting back and running on it’s not going to be a disadvantage because that’s what he’ll be doing.
“He’s got good ability.”
With strong form lines and race fitness, the Jolly-trained duo look like solid betting prospects this weekend.
